School Closure 10th January
School Closure – Friday 10th January 2025
Dear parents and carers,
I have tonight made the difficult decision to close the school tomorrow – on Friday 10th January and wanted to give you as much notice as possible so that arrangements can be made.
The Met Office have a yellow warning for ice in Blacon and surrounding areas with extremely low temperatures, not set to rise to just above freezing until the afternoon. The decision to close has been made following a risk assessment of the site on the basis of safety and ratios in school. We have a large proportion of staff who live in Wales where conditions are as severe, if not worse and there are already a number of school closures, both of which mean that our staff ratios are not high enough to ensure the safety of students in school.
Work for students will be available on Google Classroom for lessons and we encourage your child to also access the following websites for work.

This link to our website outlines all of the details on how to access online work. https://www.blaconhighschool.net/page/?title=Home+Learning&pid=68
Reception will be open for calls between 11am and 1.00pm and any students who wish to collect food from school, can come in between these times to do so.
We hope to be open again as usual on Monday 13th January, but as always, we will keep you updated if there are any changes. These will be communicated in the usual way, through the Edulink App, school website, parent pay and social media.
Whilst it is never an easy decision to close the school, I know you will understand that we must prioritise safety for everyone on the school site.
Thank you for your support and understanding.
